12 - 12:45 pm: Science Crafts: Adults, teens & kids 10 and up √Week 1 - UV Detecting Bracelets: String six beads that look white on leather lacing. Use two colored beads to make the bracelet adjustable for all but really big wrists. Take the bracelet outside or put under UV lights to see the white beads change to colors. The deeper the color, the more UV rays you are getting on your skin. We will be outside for some of this class. √Week 2 - SunPrints: Use light sensitive paper to “develop” prints by putting light blocking items on special paper and setting them in the sun. Bring small items from home like leaves, flowers, feathers, buttons, grass heads, lace, etc. to make prints on 4” square paper. We will be outdoors for part of this class. √Week 3 - Cartesian Divers: Put a small, colorful octopus-like toy in a soda bottle full of water. When you squeeze the bottle, the toy will dive to the bottom. How will different squeezes affect the diving? Bring your own clean, 1 liter bottle with a screw top cap. We’ll provide the diver. We will work outside the river door of the Art Center for this activity. √Week 4 - Faux Putty. Dye some white glue a neon color and add laundry starch, stir like crazy and rinse well. The end result is a material that sometimes acts like a solid and sometimes like a liquid. Fun stuff. All materials provided. We will work outside the river door of the Art Center for this activity. Wear old clothes or a large shirt or apron to keep clean. Register on-line at www.st.clairart.org at least 1 week before class. Information and Materials sheet will be e-mailed to you. Member: $30 Non-Member: $40
