Art on the River
Help Color the Town with Public Art!
In 2015 even though there wasn’t a Street Banner Contest, several banners were created and painted at the Art Center by eager community members. The new banners were displayed along M-29, Clinton Avenue and in the new Riverview Plaza Park. After displaying, the banners were the painters to keep.
Background Information About the Street Banner Contest –
What a successful, fun public art project for St. Clair! In March from 2009 to 2014, local artists have entered their designs in our Street Banner Contests. Over the years both summer themed and winter themed banners have been created. The designs were juried by community members, selected designs painted on banners and displayed in the Riverview Plaza for the public to vote on their favorite banner. Every year hundreds of people come to the Art Center to vote. A reception for the banner artists is held and cash prizes awarded for the top favorite banners.
The banners are then hung on the city’s street lampposts and in the corridors of Riverview Plaza. The original banners provide an incredibly colorful and unique town streetscape that is enjoyed by the local community and visitors year round. Some banners are also displayed in buildings around the community, like City Hall and the library.
Street banner themed merchandise and apparel is available for purchase at the Art Center, including shirts, sweatshirts, tote bags, bookmarks and cards.
