Call for artists! Fall “Seasons in St. Clair” project
We’re excited to announce the Fall 2010 edition of the Seasons in St. Clair project! This project is supported by the Art Association and St. Clair’s Downtown Development Authority, and is open to artists 18 and older.
Only original artwork is eligible; student work completed under the supervision of an instructor is not. Work previously exhibited at the Alice W. Moore Center for the Arts is ineligible. Artists are invited to submit artwork depicting a fall scene in St. Clair, past or present. The scene can be real or imaginary but the location has to be recognizable as St. Clair. The artist may choose the medium; however, photographs and works using photographic processing are not eligible. The artwork must be 18″x 24″ in size, titled, unmatted and unframed. The finished artwork must be able to be reproduced in the form of prints.
The winning artwork will be announced Sunday, October 3, 2010, at a reception from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The artist will receive a cash prize of $1,000.00 and a solo exhibit at the Gallery. The top three finalists will receive an invitation to the St. Clair Art Fair, June 25 & 26, 2011, with booth fees paid by the Downtown Development Authority.
This competition will be judged by St. Clair native Tom Hale. Tom’s biography is available on his web site.
To enter, complete and return this entry form with your artwork. Attach identification labels to the back lower right corner of the painting. Also include a brief, one-page bio. The deadline is 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28, 2010. Entry fee is $15.00 per piece of artwork submitted.
Complete details are on the entry form. Consider submitting your fall scenes today!
2010 St. Clair Street Banner Competition
This is the second year the Street Banner Contest has been brought to you by the St. Clair Art Association. The banners were designed and executed by artists of all ages. Forty street banners were displayed in the Riverview Plaza for public vote. Twenty summer banners have been placed on the lampposts in the St. Clair area for the summer months and the winter banners will replace them later this year.
The original street banners provide an incredibly colorful and unique town streetscape that is enjoyed by the local community and visitors throughout the year.
A printed guide listing the artist, title of each work and the location of the banners is available at the Art Center and other locations in the city.
Congratulations to all, especially those who captured the top public votes:
1st Place - Sailing on the River by Katie Westerhof ; 2nd Place - Summer Notes by Elisabeth Peters; 3rd Place Tie - Daddy’s Girl by Cindy Whisman & On the Boardwalk by Kevin Anderson
This public art project is made possible by the St. Clair Art Association with the gracious assistance of
- St. Clair Foundation
- Downtown Development Authority
- City of St. Clair
- Riverview Plaza Association
- And numerous others.
If you would like to contribute funds or provide supplies for public art projects such as this, become involved or have ideas for public art in the St. Clair area, please contact the St. Clair Art Association. We are seeking ideas for public art and welcome volunteers to assist with the banner project and other future projects.
Banner-related items are for sale at the St. Clair Art Center: long-sleeved T-shirts, tote bags, and bookmarks with the 2010 and 2009 banner images. Proceeds from the sale of these items help fund ongoing and future public art projects.
